Wireless Design Transfer with AirBroidery

Wireless Design Transfer with AirBroidery

Reading time: 3 minutes

The USB Walk Is Costing You More Than You Think

Every embroidery shop knows the routine. A USB stick travels from the punching PC to the machine – several times a day, every day. One trip looks harmless. But it never is just one step. Plug in USB → find the file → save → safely eject → walk to the machine → plug in → load → walk back. Repeat if anything goes wrong. At 3–5 minutes per trip, that adds up to over 130 hours of lost production per machine per year. Not because of a breakdown. Not because of a bad design. Because of a USB stick.

There Is a Better Way: AirBroidery

AirBroidery sends embroidery designs wirelessly from any device directly to your ZSK machine – no USB runs, no software installation, no IT project. Plug it into the machine control's USB port, open a browser on any device – Windows, Mac, tablet, or smartphone – and send designs instantly. The machine recognises AirBroidery like a standard USB stick. No drivers. No firmware updates. No modifications. It simply works.

What That Means for Your Business

The numbers speak for themselves:

Operator time saved per machine / year
132 hours
Reclaimed labour (at €65/h)
€8,580
Typical payback period
2–6 weeks

AirBroidery pays for itself within weeks – and keeps saving time every single day after that.

Built for the Embroidery Floor

AirBroidery is not a consumer gadget adapted for industry. It is designed for continuous, low-heat industrial operation – as a standalone access point or integrated into your company network. If the network drops, it keeps running. Designs are managed via a simple web interface: upload, organise, or delete with drag & drop. And it works across your entire machine park. Even machines from the late 1980s can become wireless-capable via the ZSK USB Floppy Emulator – so the investment you made 35 years ago can now receive designs sent from a smartphone across the factory floor.

Also Available: WiFi Mapa by RIBOT

Looking for the same wireless principle – plus a central design library? WiFi Mapa turns scattered USB folders into one organised network archive. Search any design by name, number, or customer from your phone or tablet. Preview colours and details as an image or PDF before sending. Available through ZSK.

Stop Paying for the "Free" Walk

The USB walk feels like it costs nothing. But 130+ hours a year per machine is a real number – in real labour, at real cost. AirBroidery is the fix. Plug it in once, and the walk is over. Questions? We're happy to help you find the right solution for your machine park. Get in touch.

ZSK Wi-Fi Dongle – Airbroidery
AirBroidery – Wireless Embroidery Design Transfer Made Simple and Reliable. With the ZSK WLAN stick AirBroidery, embroidery designs can be transferred wirelessly to your ZSK embroidery machine – directly from a PC, tablet or smartphone. Developed specifically for ZSK control systems, AirBroidery enables simple wireless design transfer without additional software or complicated network configuration. Using the integrated web interface, embroidery designs can easily be uploaded and managed through a standard web browser. AirBroidery can either operate as its own wireless access point or be integrated into an existing company network. The industrial-grade design is built for reliable continuous operation in production environments and simplifies the daily handling of embroidery designs considerably. Why AirBroidery Makes a Difference in Daily Production AirBroidery was not designed as a generic wireless adapter, but specifically for use with ZSK embroidery machines. This allows the system to combine the simplicity of a USB stick with the convenience of modern wireless data transfer. Plug & Play instead of IT complexity: AirBroidery is simply connected to the USB port of the machine control and is immediately ready for use. No drivers, additional software or complicated network setup are required. Browser-based operation: Design transfer is handled through an integrated web interface. Windows PCs, Macs, tablets and smartphones can all be used – all that is required is a web browser. Developed specifically for ZSK controls: AirBroidery is recognised by the machine control like a standard USB stick. Existing ZSK control systems with a USB port can therefore be used without firmware updates or modifications. Flexible network integration: AirBroidery can operate as a standalone wireless access point or be integrated into an existing company network. Embroidery designs can therefore be transferred directly from any workstation. Reliable even if network issues occur: If the company network becomes unavailable or network settings change, AirBroidery can continue operating in standalone mode. Access to the machine remains available. Convenient design management: Embroidery designs can be uploaded, organised or deleted through the web interface. New designs can be transferred easily via drag & drop. Designed for industrial environments: AirBroidery is built for continuous operation in production environments, offering robust functionality, high reliability and low heat generation. A Practical Solution for Modern Design Transfer AirBroidery reduces the need to handle physical USB sticks and simplifies the daily workflow of embroidery design management. The system integrates seamlessly into existing production processes and creates a direct wireless connection between the workstation and the ZSK embroidery machine. Compatibility AirBroidery is compatible with current ZSK controls and, in combination with the ZSK USB Floppy Emulator, can even enable wireless design transfer on machines dating back to the late 1980s. Important when using the ZSK USB Floppy Emulator: an SD card is required. For MSCD controls, files in the folders “00.ZSK” to “99.ZSK” must be named sequentially from G000 to G099, e.g. G0xx.DST, G0xx.DSB, G0xx.DSZ.

Tip
WiFi Mapa : Wi-Fi USB Device
More than Wi-Fi Connectivity for Your Embroidery Machine. Including Automatic Distribution of Embroidery Designs.. WiFi Mapa adds wireless Wi-Fi connectivity to embroidery machines equipped with a USB port while simultaneously automating the distribution of embroidery files. Instead of manually transferring designs to individual machines using USB drives, embroidery files are centrally managed and automatically made available on their assigned machines. Especially in operations with multiple machines, WiFi Mapa significantly reduces administrative effort. New or updated embroidery files only need to be saved once and are then automatically available on the appropriate machine. Embroidery Files Where They Are Needed Each machine is assigned a dedicated folder on a central computer or server. The WiFi Mapa software monitors these folders and automatically synchronises new or modified files with the corresponding machines. Changes are applied automatically, ensuring that the latest version of each assigned embroidery design is always available on the machine. In practice, this means an embroidery design can be saved at a workstation and shortly afterwards be ready for use on the assigned machine – without a USB drive, without network cables and without any additional transfer process. Less Administration, More Production Anyone operating multiple embroidery machines is familiar with the effort involved in distributing and maintaining embroidery files. Files must be copied, transferred and kept up to date across different machines. With WiFi Mapa, this process is handled automatically. This reduces the risk of accidentally working with an outdated file version. At the same time, unnecessary walking distances are eliminated and workflows become more streamlined and organised. Ideal for Existing Machine Fleets WiFi Mapa is particularly attractive for businesses whose machines currently receive embroidery data only via network cables or USB drives. The Wi-Fi adapter connects the machine wirelessly to the network, enabling modern digital workflows even on existing equipment. The software runs on Windows, macOS and Linux and can either be integrated into existing company networks or provide its own wireless network. Supports Existing Barcode and QR Code Workflows The integrated barcode scanner can be incorporated into existing production processes. Existing QR codes and barcodes generated by embroidery software solutions such as Wilcom EmbroideryStudio, BasePac or comparable systems can continue to be used. This enables faster assignment and deployment of jobs and embroidery designs. At a Glance Wi-Fi Connectivity: Operates as its own wireless network or integrates into existing company networks Automatic Synchronisation: New and updated embroidery files are automatically transferred and kept up to date Centralised Management: Freely configurable folder structures with individual assignment to specific machines Current Data: The latest version of each assigned embroidery design is always available on the respective machine Barcode Support: Integration of existing QR code and barcode workflows via the integrated scanner Flexible Deployment: Suitable for individual machines as well as larger machine fleets Cross-Platform: Software available for Windows, macOS and Linux More Than Just a Wi-Fi Connection WiFi Mapa does more than simply connect your embroidery machines wirelessly to the network. The system automates the distribution of embroidery files and ensures that up-to-date data is always available on the correct machine. This saves time, reduces administrative effort and supports an efficient production workflow.
