Introducing the ZSK E-Tex Board - a powerful microcontroller board that opens up a world of possibilities for creating cutting-edge Smart Textiles. It features a carefully crafted geometry and layout, developed especially for reliable integration with the ZSK embroidery machines.
With its Microchip® SAMD21 microcontroller and periferal components, the ZSK E-Tex Board allows you to connect multiple capacitive touch sensors and LEDs, such as the ZSK LED Sequin, directly to the board without the need for additional circuitry. 20 GPIO pins provide you with the flexibility to program and customize the PCB to suit the unique requirements of your project.
If you want to use the board for some of the ZSK Smart Textiles applications, we recommend a ZSK E-Tex board that is pre-programmed with the application-specific firmware. Simply contact us and let us know your desired application.
If you need the board for a custom project or wish to have more flexibility, we recommend a blank ZSK E-Tex Board that you can program yourself.

This development kit contains 9 moss-embroidered electrodes in three different sizes. This allows you to quickly and reliably test the function of the electrodes in specific applications. Each electrode has an additional embroidered area to facilitate the connection to your electronic equipment e.g. by means of conductive snap fasteners.
Traditional electrodes rely on a conductive gel to minimize the skin-to-electrode resistance. However, the gel dries over time and can cause skin irritations which makes gel-electrodes unsuitable for long-term applications. Conventional dry electrodes are mostly rigid and flat and only offer punctual contact to the skin. Moss-embroidered electrodes, on the other hand, are soft and flexible and adapt to the skin relief when pressed against the body, ensuring low skin-to-electrode resistance without the need of conductive gel.
Due to their softness, embroidered electrodes are basically unnoticeable for the subject. This makes them suitable for various applications in the fields of personal healthcare and fitness. Introducing 'Pinch Me', a fun and innovative demonstrator that showcases the power of technical embroidery and electronics integration. With two embroidered control elements and two PCBs, this sample was produced fully automatically using a ZSK embroidery machine, without any need for operator intervention. The PCBs were expertly placed and fixed using ZSK’s PCB Laying Device, while the connections between the PCBs and the control elements were embroidered with conductive thread.
Pinch one or both control elements and the four RGB LEDs light up in the corresponding color. It's a simple yet effective way to experience the automated and reliable integration of electronics via embroidery.

Our Capacitive Touch Demo is a demonstration model that shows different integration possibilities of embroidered touch sensors. It shows a combination of different cover materials as well as uncovered sensors in one design.

Our 'Capacitive Touch Demo' consists of four embroidered touch sensors, four ZSK LED sequins, and a ZSK E-Tex board . Touching a sensor turns the corresponding LED on and off.

ZSK EMBROIDERED PIANO

Embroidered Piano
Ever played music on a piece of fabric? The Embroidered Piano makes this possible. The piano features eight keys that are embroidered with conductive thread, which are then connected to an Adafruit Circuit Playground board. Simply touch a key with your finger, and the Adafruit board will play the corresponding musical tone through its onboard mini speaker, while also flashing LEDs in a matching color. You can see how this demonstrator works in action in this video.
The piano keys and the conductive paths which connect them to the circuit board are embroidered fully automatically by a ZSK embroidery machine. The paths are then covered with non-conductive embroidery thread for protection against mechanical stress and to enhance the overall design with color matching the fabric.
The Embroidered Piano comes with a USB cable for easy power supply from your power bank or notebook.
And if you're feeling adventurous, you can also get the DIY kit and try embroidering the piano yourself! The kit includes everything you need to create your own unique design and experience the joy of playing music on fabric.

Want to control the brightness of the lights in a car by wiping your fingers across the leather armrest, or adjust your car seat by touching embroidered switches that blend with the interior? All this is now possible!
Our Smart Dashboard demonstrates on a small scale how our capacitive touch technology enables touch registration even through thick dielectric materials, and allows a perfect combination between functionality and design.
The dashboard has three embroidered touch sensors, one embroidered touch slider and six ZSK LED sequins, all controlled by a ZSK E-Tex board.
The touch sensors, the LED sequins and the connections to the controller board can be realized fully automatically with a ZSK embroidery machine.
