Würker embroidery backing for professional machine embroidery

The range comprises precut cut-away, tear-away and cap backing for a variety of fabrics and applications. Material, weight, hand, colour and format differ by grade. For new combinations of fabric, design and backing we recommend a test sew-out on the original material.

Cut-away backing for stretch fabrics

Cut-away backing remains behind the design after embroidery and therefore provides permanent stabilisation. It is particularly suitable for jersey, piqué, knitted fabrics, sweatshirt fabrics and other stretch or low-stability textiles. Würker cut-away backing is made either from 100% polypropylene at 60 gsm or from 100% polyester at 65 or 80 gsm. Depending on the grade, white or black precut sheets are available in 20 × 20, 25 × 25 and 40 × 40 cm.

Tear-away backing for stable wovens

Tear-away backing is carefully torn away from the reverse after embroidery. Typical applications are stable wovens with little or no stretch. Würker tear-away backing is made from 100% polyester and is available as Soft or Hard, each at 60 or 80 gsm. Soft is the more flexible grade; Hard is firmer and stiffer and offers more body. Depending on the grade, white or black precut sheets are available in 20 × 20, 25 × 25 and 40 × 40 cm.

Cap backing for cap embroidery

Würker cap backing Hard supports structured and multi-layer caps in particular during embroidery. This especially stiff tear-away backing is made from 100% polyester and, at 100 gsm, is matched to processing in the cap frame. The strips in 10 × 40 cm format are available in white or black, depending on the grade. Alongside the right backing, hooping the cap correctly and evenly is decisive for a clean stitch result.

Note on water-soluble topping: on high-pile surfaces such as terry or fleece, an additional water-soluble topping can be useful. It is mentioned here as technical background and is not currently part of the Würker range on offer.

Frequently asked questions about Würker embroidery backing

Which precut format should I choose?

The sheet must be large enough for the backing to be held securely across the entire hoop. A format matched to the hoop simplifies preparation and avoids unnecessary waste.

How many backing sheets do I need?

Allow one sufficiently large sheet per embroidery head and per hooping.

Which backing colour suits the fabric?

White backing is usually less noticeable on light or thin fabrics. On dark textiles, black backing can be less visible, particularly at the needle penetration points and along the trimmed edge.

Can Würker embroidery backing be ironed?

Iron at low temperature (one dot) and without steam.
